Description

The Blue Ring Neck Parrot is a stunning colour mutation of the Indian Ringneck, retaining the species’ elegant, slender form and long tail but with rich sapphire-blue body plumage. The male’s signature neck ring is typically a darker blue or black. This bird possesses the same intelligent, confident, and highly vocal personality as the green variant. They are excellent talkers and enjoy mental stimulation through training and puzzles. Like all Ringnecks, their size is matched by a loud, sharp screech, which is a primary consideration for ownership in residential areas.

Tamability and Maintenance: Blue Ring Necks are highly tamable and form deep bonds when hand-fed. They are a moderate to high maintenance pet. Their high intelligence necessitates dedicated daily mental stimulation (puzzles, training) and out-of-cage exercise. They are prone to the characteristic “bluffing” phase during puberty, requiring an owner capable of consistent, firm, and positive training. A tall, sturdy cage is essential to protect their long tail feathers and provide climbing space. Their typical lifespan is 25-30 years.

Diet: The diet should be based on a high-quality, medium parrot pellet formula. This must be supplemented daily with a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables (especially Vitamin A-rich types). Seeds should be strictly limited to occasional treats. They benefit from calcium and Vitamin D supplementation (safe sun exposure) to support their overall health.
