The Goffin’s Cockatoo is one of the smallest white cockatoos, known for its small size, white body, and a slight pinkish wash on the face. They are famous for their high intelligence, incredible dexterity, and playful, inquisitive temperament. Goffins are excellent little escape artists, adept at solving puzzles and manipulating objects with their strong beaks and feet. They are very affectionate and thrive on attention, but they are generally less intensely demanding than the larger white cockatoos. While they can be loud, their volume is considerably more manageable than an Umbrella or Moluccan, though still a factor to consider.

Tamability and Maintenance: Goffin’s Cockatoos are highly tamable and thrive on daily interaction and intellectual challenges. They are a high maintenance bird primarily due to their need for extreme mental stimulation. Owners must provide a constant rotation of complex foraging toys, puzzle boxes, and heavy-duty chew items to prevent boredom and destructive behavior. Their smaller size makes them suitable for a slightly smaller cage, but it must be robust with secure locks to thwart their escape artistry. Their lifespan is typically 30-40 years.

Diet: A Goffin’s Cockatoo’s diet must be low in fat. The base should be a high-quality, medium parrot pellet formula. This must be supplemented daily with a wide range of fresh, chopped vegetables and greens. Due to their propensity for obesity and fatty liver disease, seeds and nuts should be restricted to very limited, measured amounts used only as occasional treats or for complex foraging activities.
