The Golden Conure, or Queen of Bavaria Conure, is one of the world’s most spectacular and rare parrots, renowned for its brilliant, near-uniform golden-yellow plumage. They possess an incredibly intelligent, inquisitive, and social temperament. Golden Conures are highly playful, outgoing, and form extremely deep, loyal bonds with their human family, often acting like a feathered monarch. They are known for being strong chewers and demanding of attention. Unlike the Sun Conure, their natural calls are a loud, deep, and penetrating squawk and screech, which, while slightly less shrill, is still a major noise factor and requires careful housing consideration.

Tamability and Maintenance: Golden Conures are highly tamable and make devoted, if challenging, companions. They are an extremely high maintenance pet, requiring significant daily interaction (several hours) and constant mental stimulation through puzzles and foraging. They are highly prone to boredom, which results in destructive chewing. Due to their rarity and specialized care needs, they require an experienced owner committed to their 30-40 year lifespan. Their cage must be large, strong, and equipped with a continuous supply of wooden chew toys.

Diet: The diet should be a premium, formulated conure or medium-sized parrot pellet as the majority staple. This must be heavily supplemented daily with a wide array of fresh, washed vegetables and a limited amount of fruit. They have a strong natural requirement for palm nut kernels in the wild, so healthy nuts like almonds and walnuts can be given in very controlled amounts as enrichment and training rewards, but strict moderation is essential to prevent obesity and related liver disease.
