Description

The Green-Cheek Conure is one of the most popular and smallest of the conure family, prized for its quieter nature and affectionate disposition. Their plumage is predominantly green with a gray chest and unique maroon tail feathers, and a distinctive green patch on their cheeks. They are often described as having a “big parrot personality in a small package.” They are playful, mischievous, and enjoy cuddling under a shirt or blanket. While they do vocalize, their calls are significantly quieter and less shrill than those of the Sun Conure, making them far more suitable for apartment or shared living.

Tamability and Maintenance: Green-Cheek Conures are highly tamable and bond very closely with their owners, making them excellent family pets. They are a moderate maintenance bird. They are very social and need significant daily interaction and out-of-cage time (at least 1-2 hours) to remain happy and well-adjusted. They are prone to chewing and need a constant rotation of safe, chewable toys. Their intelligence also requires mental stimulation through foraging activities. They can live for 20-30 years. Diet should consist of a formulated conure pellet as the main staple, supplemented generously with fresh, washed fruits and vegetables. Favorite foods include carrots, peas, apples, bananas, and corn. High-fat seeds and nuts should be used sparingly as treats or training rewards to maintain their health.
