The Green Ring Neck Parrot is the original and most common colour of the Indian Ringneck, celebrated for its emerald green plumage and the male’s distinct black and rose-coloured neck ring. They are known for their strong personality: intelligent, confident, and excellent talkers who can develop extensive vocabularies. Ringnecks are very active, thrive on mental challenges, and form deep bonds with their owners. However, a major feature of their character is their loud, piercing, and far-reaching screech, a natural flock call that is a significant factor to consider when housing this bird.

Tamability and Maintenance: Green Ring Necks are highly tamable and make affectionate, engaging pets. They are a moderate to high maintenance bird. Their high intelligence requires several hours of daily mental stimulation through foraging and puzzle toys. They also need ample out-of-cage time for exercise. Owners must be prepared to manage the often challenging “bluffing” phase during puberty with consistent, firm, and positive training. A tall, sturdy cage is essential for their long tail. Their commitment is long-term, typically 25-30 years.

Diet: The core of the diet should be a high-quality, medium parrot pellet formula. This must be supplemented daily with a wide variety of fresh fruits (apple, berries, melon) and vegetables (corn, peas, dark leafy greens). Seeds should be limited to occasional treats only to prevent common health issues like obesity and fatty liver disease.
