The Jenday Conure is a spectacularly colored South American parrot, featuring a bright yellow head and chest, green wings, and a red-orange belly. They are highly active, playful, and known for their bold, curious temperament. Jendays are extremely social and thrive on interaction, often bonding deeply and loyally with their human families, enjoying cuddling and being the center of attention. While they share the high-energy personality of the Sun Conure, their calls are generally considered to be slightly less piercing and frequent, though they are still a loud species and noise must be considered. They are clever and capable of learning tricks and simple phrases.

Tamability and Maintenance: Jenday Conures are highly tamable and make fantastic companion pets. They are a high maintenance bird, requiring dedicated daily social interaction (at least 2-3 hours) and plenty of mental stimulation. Their high intelligence necessitates a consistent supply of foraging and puzzle toys to prevent boredom, which can lead to excessive screaming or plucking. They require a large cage for climbing and exercise. Their lifespan is typically 20-30 years, a significant commitment.

Diet: The Jenday Conure’s diet should be centered on a high-quality conure pellet formula (60-70%), supplemented daily with a wide variety of fresh, washed vegetables and fruits. They have a strong affinity for fruits but should receive a balanced mix with more vegetables than fruit to control sugar intake. Seeds and nuts should be limited to small, measured treats for training or enrichment, as Jendays are prone to weight gain.
