The White-Faced Cockatiel is an elegant and highly popular colour mutation, characterized by the complete absence of the yellow and orange pigments that define the species. The bird’s face is pure white or grey, giving it a striking monochrome appearance. This mutation is considered one of the purest presentations of the Cockatiel’s natural grey and white palette. Temperamentally, White-Faced Cockatiels are among the most affectionate and gentle of the species. They are highly intelligent, bond strongly, and are known for their sweet, cuddly disposition. They communicate through soft, pleasant chattering and whistling (males especially), making them excellent, non-disruptive pets.

Tamability and Maintenance: White-Faced Cockatiels are highly tamable and make devoted, affectionate companions. They are a moderate maintenance bird, requiring a clean environment, a consistent daily routine, and essential social time. A single bird will require 1-2 hours of direct human interaction daily. A spacious cage that allows for flight and a continuous supply of toys for mental stimulation are necessary. Their lifespan typically reaches 15–20 years, representing a significant commitment to a beloved family member.

Diet: A healthy diet for a White-Faced Cockatiel must be based on a high-quality, formulated pellet (70% of intake) to ensure complete nutrition. This must be supplemented daily with a generous amount of fresh, chopped vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, and spinach. Seeds and fatty foods should be limited to small training rewards only, as Cockatiels are highly susceptible to diet-related illnesses like fatty liver disease. Clean, fresh water and a calcium source (cuttlebone) are required at all times.
